St Leonard's Church, Bilston - history

A historic church built in the late Georgian period from 1825 to 1826, by the architect Francis Goodwin, later restored by Ewan Christian from 1882 to 1883.

It was built in the Neo-Classical style influenced by John Soane (1753 - 1837).

The interior was mostly done by Ewan Christian, with Greek relief motifs, and galleries to three sides.

The west tower with clock faces is it's most dominant feature, and can be seen from a distance away.

If you are at The Crescent Tram Stop, or the nearby Arthur Street footbridge, you can see the churches clock tower with weather vane from there.

Today the church lies to the north of Bilston Town Centre and the West Midlands Metro line between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, with Bilston Central Tram Stop being the nearest stop.
