Holy Trinity Parish Church in Sutton Coldfield has a history going back 750 years. The first church dated to the 13th century, but the west tower dates to the 15th century. Grade I listed.

In brief

The church stands on the site of an earlier church, thought to have dated to the 13th century. The earliest part of the current building is the west tower dating to the late 15th century. Bishop Vesey extended the church in the 1530s. More elements added in the 18th and 19th centuries. It has been a Grade I listed building since 1949.

Holy Trinity Parish Church - history

The first church on the site was thought to have been built in the 13th century, while the earliest part of th current building is the west tower dating to the late 15th century.

Bishop John Vesey had the church extended in the 1530s with two side aisles and an organ was added.

By the 18th century, the galleries, pews and bells were added to the church.

Inside the church is the tomb of Bishop Vesey, as well as the font acquired in the 19th century from the Church of St Lawrence, Over Winacre in Nottinghamshire.

The early 17th century screens and panelling was fitted in 1875, they were removed from a choir and organ casting of Worcester Cathedral in 1864.

The church was formerly part of the medieval Diocese of Lichfield, it is now part of the Diocese of Birmingham.

The Friends of Holy Trinity Parish Church was formed in September 2013.
