In brief
Built as Harborne School for the Harborne School Board in 1885. It was by Martin & Chamberlain. After the school closed it became the Clock Tower Community Education Centre. It was converted by 2014 for use with restaurants and cafes, and is now known as The School Yard.

The School Yard, Harborne - History
Built by the Harborne School Board (Staffordshire) on the corner of York Street and High Street in Harborne.

The Harborne School was mainly a primary school for girls, built in 1885 by the architects Martin & Chamberlain.
There is also a suggestion that it dates to 1881 by J. P. Sharp & Co.

After the school closed it became the Clock Tower Community Education Centre, owned by Birmingham City Council (until the council sold it in 2010-11).
It's been a Grade II listed building since July 1982.

It was converted into The School Yard between 2011 and 2014, and is next to the White Horse public house on York Street.
Original tenants included Prezzo (until 2020), Boston Tea Party, the Urban Coffee Company (until 2015) and the Harborne Food School.

Boston Tea Party is the only tenant here to still running their café here, as of 2023.

There is a black plaque on the building from The Harborne Society for Hugh Morton MB CH B General Practitioner 1898 - 1979.
Dr Morton probably had his GP practice at Clock Tower Community Education Centre in the middle of the 20th century.

If walking up Vivian Road from Harborne Park Road. there is a view of the clock tower with the Five Ways Clock Tower and the Rotunda.
