In brief

A medieval church, with origins in the 12th century, although it mostly dates from the 13th to 15th centuries. The church was restored from 1665 until 1668. The tower was recast by Thomas Rickman in 1826. The east end rebuilt in 1786 and the west front by Richard Charles Hussey in 1843.

Holy Trinity Church, Coventry - history

The church has origins in the 12th century, and is the only Medieval church in Coventry that is complete. It is 59 metres long and has a spire that is 72 metres high, making it one of the tallest non-cathedral spires in the UK. The church was restored from 1665 to 1669, and the tower was recased by Thomas Rickman in 1826. In 1786 the east end was rebuilt, and in 1843 the west front was done by Richard Charles Hussey.

There is a doom painting in the tower arch dated to the 1430s, it was discovered in 1831. Conservation work began in 1995 and the painting was revealed by 2004.

It has been a Grade I listed building since 1955. Further to the above, the listing says that a chapel was added in 1526 to 1527. The spire and upper part of the tower was rebuilt from 1666 to 1669.  R C Hussey was from Birmingham, and his restoration works took place from 1843 to 1849. While the famous G G Scott did some work here in 1855. The West window was restored in 1955, and the east window in 1956.
