The West Midlands Police Museum opened in the former Lock Up of Steelhouse Lane Police Station from 2020. The police station next door closed around 2017.

The West Midlands Police Museum is at The Lock-up, Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham, B4 6BJ 

In brief

A Victorian lock-up built in 1891, it was in use until 2016 as working police cell block. Steelhouse Lane Police Station next door closed in early 2017, and by 2020 they converted the former lock-up into a museum.

The Lock-up - history

Cell block on the corner of Steelhouse Lane and Coleridge Passage.

Built in 1891 of red brick and terracotta with a slate roof.

Was used as a working police cell block by the West Midlands Police from when the force was created in 1974 until when it closed in 2016.

Steelhouse Lane Police Station to the left was closed in 2017.

The lock-up was converted into a museum in 2020.

The museum was open to the public by 2022.
