Kenrick's Clock - history

The clock was presented to the Borough in 1912 by the then Mayor, Councillor J Archibald Kenrick.

The clock for many years used to be in a red colour in 2022.

Planning permission and listing consent was granted in the year 2000 for the relocation of the clock off the traffic island in the road junction to it's current position in Dartmouth Square.

There used to be a canopy over this end of the High Street for the Farley Centre, but this was removed between 2012 and 2014.

In 2017, one of the Big Sleuth bears was in front of the drinking fountain canopy.

Sometime during 2022, both the clock and drinking fountain canopy (the Elizabeth Farley Memorial Fountain) were restored and repainted from the previous red to blue.

The area around both monuments was repaved, and several bollards were installed around them.
