In brief

Built as The Old Bulls Head on Digbeth in 1860, it was rebuilt in 1880. It was a family owned Irish public house called The Kerryman. Due to a variety of reasons, it closed down in Autumn 2022. As of 2023, the venue is available to let. So might get a new name once new tenants move in.

The Kerryman - history

A public house in Digbeth, originally built in 1860 as The Old Bulls Head.

The pub was rebuilt in 1880.

It's not to be confused with it's neighbouring pub a few doors down, The Big Bulls Head, which was built in 1900.

When it became the Kerryman, it’s old multi-room interior was hollowed out to form a large sports hall feel interior.

On floor space alone, one could fit two Badminton Courts in here, although you would hit the ceiling with your badminton racket whenever you went for the overhead shot.

The O'Connor family took over the pub in 1996 when it became The Roscommon Bar, but years later was renamed to The Kerryman after a refurbishment.

The pub now has an Irish feel, with Irish music on Monday nights, and hosts traditional Irish music.

At St Patrick's Day each March, the exterior of the pub has Irish tricolour flags of green, white and orange go up (usually ahead of the annual St Patrick's Day Parade).

Midland Metro Alliance have been doing roadworks outside of The Kerryman from July 2021 to July 2022. They have installed new curb stones and started to tarmac the road in late May 2022.

By the autumn of 2022, The Kerryman has sadly closed down, probably due to the never ending Metro roadworks, lack of trade etc.
